Edmund has been the Department for International Trade (DIT) Director in Kazakhstan since August 2018. His team focuses on the mining, oil and gas, financial and professional business services, healthcare, agriculture, education, and other sectors.

Edmund has worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO), and the DIT since 1999. His previous roles have included: leading DIT’s South East Asia infrastructure opportunities campaign from Singapore in 2014-18, where he also covered the aerospace, automotive, defence and security, marine and other sectors; coordinating UK IPO engagement with India and SE Asia from London, via its attaches in New Delhi and Singapore in 2012-14; and oversight of UK-China ministerial trade policy dialogues in UKTI’s China Markets Unit in London in 2008-12. He joined the Foreign Office in 1999, initially covering EU enlargement, before studying Mandarin Chinese for two political section (bilateral relations) postings in Beijing in 2002-07.
