Matt is an experienced mining industry professional specializing in creating value in resource companies, through resource optimization, through project development, through business improvement and through value-adding transactions. Matt has specialised in developing and implementing global governance and best practice systems for resource companies, in the areas of resource reporting, mine planning, capital governance and productivity. 

He has worked for large mining companies (ArcelorMittal, Billiton, BHP, Randgold Resources and Goldfields), for mid-tier companies (Severin Mining, Rand Leases Gold Mine), in Research (CSIR), as an entrepreneur (twice), and as a mining analyst on the JSE. Matt is a Competent Person/Valuator in most major commodities and he has experience of working in many key geological terrains in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Cuba, Suriname, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Brazil, Mali, Guinea, Liberia, the DRC, Angola, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa, China, Indonesia, Australia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Ros is a mining specialist within Department for International Trade helping UK companies connect with export opportunities across Eurasia and Africa.

Ros has directed more than 50 mining conferences, seminars and events for the. She created Mining on Top, a conference focused on mining’s role in development in Africa, which attracted 500 delegates and 13 African Ministers in its second year. She is a qualified Corporate Coach and Six Sigma Blackbelt.

Adam is a Principal in Appian’s Financial team, based in London. He is responsible for investment organisation and evaluation, leading transaction execution and financial due diligence, portfolio monitoring and overseeing the finance team.

Prior to joining Appian, Adam spent 8 years in private equity and investment banking roles. He spent 5 years at Mabudala Investment Company diligencing, executing and managing investments primarily in its Mining, Aluminium and Utilities sectors and 3 years at Deutsche Bank advising Metals and Mining companies on M&A and capital markets transactions.

Adam began his career serving 6 years as a submarine officer in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he qualified as nuclear engineer and managed operations across various engineering disciplines.

Adam earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard Business School and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and Naval Postgraduate School.

As RCG Founder and Managing Partner Rustem has spent nearly 10 years in metals and mining investment space, having structured a number of acquisitions and disposals of significant mining assets in Kazakhstan, brought mines to production, organized IPOs and debt placements. He brings a great deal of industry-specific and regional investment knowledge.

Rustem began his career as an Investment Manager at Kazyna Capital Management, Central Asia’s largest private equity group, where he worked closely with a variety of large international institutional investors. Rustem holds a BSc in Management Science from Warwick University (UK) and an MSc in Finance from Imperial College in London.

Tamara Gehring leads the Primary Markets activities of the London Stock Exchange Group across Western Europe and the Nordics through a network of stakeholders – companies, advisors, investors, trade bodies and government officials. She is a multi-lingual finance professional with over a decade of experience managing risk and advising firms across a range of sectors. She co-founded the boutique advisory firm SD Capital and prior to that spent 5 years at Goldman Sachs managing a USD30bn risk exposure across Western European countries and across industries. She holds the IMC charter and CFA Level 1 and has worked in the UK, the US, Argentina, the Netherlands and Germany, including for the German Embassy in Buenos Aires.

Mr. Bennett was appointed CEO of AIX in April 2018. He was most recently CEO of NZX, the operator of New Zealand’s securities and derivatives markets and provider of trading, post-trade and data services. Mr. Bennet led NZX through a period of significant organizational and regulatory change, including the replacement and upgrading of NZX’s trading and clearing systems, and the launch of 23 ETF’s through NZX Funds Management.

Prior to joining NZX, Mr. Bennett was a Partner with Oliver Wyman and the Boston Consulting Group in Asia.

Mr. Bennett has an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and a B.C.A from Victoria University of Wellington.

Arman is a director of investment department in Tau-Ken Samruk. He is responsible for new investments for Tau-Ken Samruk and equity transactions.

Earlier, he worked at Kazzinc Holdings / Altyntau Resources. He took part in various projects, assisting Kazzinc mining and metallurgical assets. He has more than 12 years’ experience in metals and mining.

Prior to joining metals and mining sector, he was at TuranAlem Securities and Eurasian Development Bank. Arman managed stock and bond portfolios.

Arman has a master degree in Investment and Finance from Queen Mary University.

Ozgur Kutay is the Chief Representative for Turkey, Eastern Europe and Central Asia at UK Export Finance (UKEF). UKEF is the UK Government’s Export Credit Agency, helping buyers around the world to trade with UK suppliers by offering attractive financing options. Through this local presence in Istanbul, as a priority market, UKEF is better placed to deliver competitive and innovative financing solutions to Turkish companies and public bodies doing business with the UK.

Prior to this role, Kutay served in Citigroup for 22 years with a variety of responsibilities. His roles included running Citibank in Kuwait as the chief executive, managing credit and risk for a region including Turkey, Israel, Caucasus, Central Asia, and leading Citibank’s corporate, financial institutions, and public sector relationships for the same region. Kutay also served as a member of Board of Directors for Citibank A.S. and Citigroup Menkul, the leading banking and brokerage vehicles of Citi in Turkey. Earlier, he worked for Deloitte Touché in a World Bank-funded Financial Management Improvement Project for the Turkish Electricity Authority and later, for Intergraph, a Fortune 500 technology company. Kutay received his B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 1989 in Ankara, Turkey and earned an MBA from the University of Florida, Warrington College of Business in 1991.

Mark Tyler graduated as a metallurgist and worked in research and consulting for 12 years, during which time he obtained post graduate qualifications in engineering management and mineral economics. He then joined the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa where he participated in the development of large scale mining and metallurgical projects (including iron and steel, aluminium and mineral sands), gaining experience in the debt funding of such projects in addition to ownership decision making. In 2001 Mark joined Nedbank Capital and helped develop Nedbank’s resources finance business from a small team to one of South Africa’s leading mining and oil and gas banks. Until 2016, Mark was responsible for developing Nedbank’s international mining investment banking offering from the office in London. Since then he has been the London representative for Auramet, a precious metal merchant banking and physical trading firm from New York and a director of Bardene Financial, a metals finance advisory firm.

Orion is one of the world’s leading mining-focused private equity businesses. Philip is responsible for the identification, evaluation and execution of new investments for Orion, and investment management and monitoring. Philip has closed transactions in equity, streaming, royalties, offtake and public and private debt.

Before joining Orion, Philip was at Pala Investments. Philip identified, evaluated and executed a wide range of private equity transactions, and worked with a number of portfolio companies, assisting with various strategic and financial projects. He also established and managed Pala’s long-short liquid portfolio.

Prior to Pala, Philip was at Deloitte, where he advised on IPOs, bond issuances, M&A, and consultancy projects. 

Philip has a Masters degree in Earth Sciences from Oxford University.

Nigel has over 30 years’ experience in the natural resource industry and a specialist in energy, transaction identification, marketing and negotiation, having gained extensive experience in negotiating transactions in Central Asia and the FSU. He was a co-founder of AIM-listed Victoria Oil and Gas, and served as a board director of PJSC MegaFon, the third-largest telephone operator in Russia. Previously, he led the natural resources division at the Central Europe Trust, a corporate finance boutique with Lord Lawson as the Chairman. During Nigel’s career, he has advised governments and raised over $3 billion for asset acquisition and development. More recently working with new renewable energy technologies/developments and co-founded Remote Site Solutions (energy efficiencies at remote sites) & PanAgris (providing capital & solutions for the economic restoration of land & shoreline).

Altynbek is the Director General at Alamak Proxima.

Previously he worked at the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the department of patent and licensing work and marketing.
